Last year, Screen Rant visited the Captain Marvel set and noted a telling statement from MCU head Feige during a sizzle reel presentation. In the clip, Feige suggests that Larson’s Captain Marvel will become the central figure of the MCU. While the release of Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp made a splash at the box office last early last summer (tripling its reported $162-195 million budget), it’s the MCU’s 19th installment, Avengers: Infinity War, that really shook up franchise fans, as Thanos gained control of the six Infinity Stones while taking down several of the MCU’s most beloved characters. By topping $2 billion at the box office, Avengers: Infinity War not only became the top-grossing film of 2018, but also the fourth highest-grossing film of all-time.
Larson, who won a Best Actress Oscar for her lead performance in the 2015 film Room, will reprise her Captain Marvel role in this April’s Avengers: Endgame. First, however, the MCU will introduce Carol Danvers, a woman with superhuman strength, energy projection, and flight, thanks to a DNA accident that makes her part-human, part-Kree. Earlier today, Screen Rant published a story in which Larson’s co-star, Law, explains the Kree-Skull conflict, which will be key to the movie as well.
